The Roof, the Roof, the Roof is on Fire!

Four days ago, a fire erupted on the roof of an apartment complex that was being built in Houston, Texas. Everyone evacuated safely, except for one construction worker who was stranded on the top floor.

Here is the amazing footage of his rescue by the fire fighters.

This footage contains:

disaster (raging roof fire),
suspense (will he survive?),
action (falling to the lower level),
humour ("I was going to get an apartment over there too...", "they're cheaper now"),
obliviousness ("hey, hey,  what about this guy?", "they got him!", "oh, OK...")
and more.

Here's the fire from further away.

And a couple of photos.

Cats and Dogs #2

Because... you know... the internet loves its cats and dogs.

Scottie pinwheel

Not too sharp but adorable nonetheless

Corgi enjoys the carousel

Dog is super happy to be saved after falling in what looks like a sewage canal

Cat vs DVD drive

For last, I've left an experiment that was done to compare cat vs dog attachment to their owners.

Cat owners explain this as cats being more independent than dogs.
I just see cats that view their owners as food dispensers.

Loop Da Loop

This reminded me of my childhood.
Although, I was more of a Matchbox fan than a Hot Wheels one.

Today I learnt (from Wikipedia of course) that the two used to be competitors until 1997 when Mattel (the owner of Hot Wheels) bought Tyco Toys (owner of Matchbox). I hate monopolies and soulless multinationals. No competition, no progress (or at most slow progress).

In any case... moving along...

Here are Team Hot Wheels drivers, Tanner Foust and Greg Tracy, racing two vehicles through a six-story double vertical loop in 2012 at Los Angeles.

Mighty impressive! (despite the dreadfully anticlimactic sound and editing)

And here's Team Green driver (part of Team Hot Wheels I presume), Brent Fletcher, attempting a World Record Corkscrew jump in a revved up performance buggy.

Finally, here's Team Hot Wheels (Yellow) driver Tanner Foust breaking the world record for a distance jump in a four-wheeled vehicle at the Indianapolis 500 on May 29th 2011. He drops almost 10 stories down (although I'm not convinced that that was actually necessary) and "flies" 101m through the air.

Hong Kong (time-lapse)

A few days ago we featured Macau.
It's only fitting we feature its larger (and richer) neighbour, Hong Kong.

Again, courtesy of Little Big World.

(As always, watching in HD/full screen is recommended)

It seems like the British did a better job.
Sorry Portugal.

He Had One Shot

As the great 20th century poet guy M&M's Eminem once said:

"...if you had one shot, one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted, one moment
Would you capture it or just let it slip?"

He continued by adding that:

"You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime"

And let's not forget:

"Mom's spaghetti"

Well, this Irish dude had one shot and he seized it.

He became a meme with just three seconds of fame.

Macau (tilt-shift)

Macau (or Macao) a Portuguese colony from 1557 until its transfer back (or without "back" depending on how you see it) to China in 1999, is the Asian Las Vegas.

Enjoy in HD.

I Can't Remember to Forget You - Shakira ft Rihanna Song Parody

After a very long time the Key of Awesome make a song parody I can get behind.

Watch the original here (or better don't).

When I first heard the radio version, I just couldn't get through the whole thing. I had to switch station to cleanse my ears.

Ska. Ska? Seriously? If there is one type of music that is more unrefined and unsophisticated than (most) country music, jazz or hip hop (a baboon could write these three), that has to be ska. All examples of ska music should be dropped into the Mariana trench and never spoken of before. Humanity should feel shame about ska and for the fact that this Shakira Rihanna hybrid reached number one in some countries.

Game Show "Deal or No Deal" Lasts Less Than A Minute

Yap. The real duration of "Deal or No Deal" without all the crap...

(such as false suspense, stupid ramblings of the presenter in order to stall, cretin player trying to explain why he chose something which is inherently random)

...is less than a minute.

I hate these games. They're not educational. You don't learn anything new. They don't test you as a viewer. They just drag on and on and on... Plus, the players that go on them have a minimal chance of winning anything life changing. In contrast to the creators and the channel hosting it, who make a significant profit from each and every episode.

They've stopped making this totally random, idiotic game, right? RIGHT?!
Actually no. According to Wikipedia there are countries where new seasons were still being made as of 2013 (poor Estonia and Turkey).

Don't worry though, Endemol (Dutch-Italian company, creators of this, Big Brother and many, many others) will devise something new to kill our brain cells with.
