Don't Vodka in the Morning

There obviously is a reason there are so many dashcams in use in Russia.

On the morning of July 1st 2014, in the Russian city of Yaroslavl, a dashcam caught this crazy footage.

What IS going on?

The traffic camera helps make some sense out of the situation.

Apparently the van driver was a former employee of a hotel, who had just stolen one of the hotel's vans (a GAZelle). He was not seriously injured in the accident, but he was (obviously) arrested, and did show signs of intoxication.

NBA Players: When Did You Know It Was Over?

Retired NBA players Grant Hill, Brent Barry, Steve Smith, Dennis Scott, Isiah Thomas, Kenny Smith and Steve Kerr talk to NBA TV's Open Court host Ernie Johnson describing the moment each of them realized they're too old for this s*it their careers were over.

More interesting and entertaining than you might think (starts around 0:31).

Girl Voice

Actor Matt Bittner does a really good girl voice (and I'm sure he's a good actor too, but that is not the subject of this post).

His friend Ryan Clark recorded him doing the girl voice and uploaded it on Youtube (apparently against his wishes).

It (fairly) rapidly went viral (2.5 million views in three days).

So here's Matt having another go at it, while forgiving his friend for uploading it on Youtube.

Very impressive.

One might suspect that he could be lip-syncing to a real woman's voice (albeit perfectly), but he looks like a stand up guy, so I choose to believe.

Formula 1 Then and Now

I admit I am not a big Formula 1 fan (I appreciate it, just not enough to follow it meticulously), but I found a couple of videos that are worth putting here.

First, the speed at which pit stops are made these days (compared to 1950) is pretty impressive.

Also, there has been a change in regulation concerning the engines between seasons 2013 and 2014. As a result, the sound/noise they make now isn't as... magestic, however it seems it was done in order to push engineers into making more fuel-efficient engines. Technology that could be transferred to... regular cars in the near future.

Update: Here are the changes made to Formula 1 explained by drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel. Thanks to dedicated blog reader Ksp (aka PJK) for this!

The World Cup of Arm-Folding

Something novel that has been happening during the ongoing World Cup involves the small segment before the start of each match where they show the starting line-ups.

In the past, a face photo was the best you would get as each player's name was shown.

This year, you get short clips of each player above the waist, turning towards the camera and folding his arms. But amazingly, something so simple goes awkwardly wrong so many times.

I'll let this video by Slate show what I mean (and make sure to read the hilarious article as well, you won't regret it).

Didn't they have time to attempt a few more takes? Looks sloppy.

Here, you can generate your own annoyed football player.

Even Jimmy Kimmel made fun of it.
