Airplanes Landing In Strong Crosswind Conditions

A Thomson Airways Boeing 767 encounters a 35-knot (~65km/h) crosswind during landing at Birmingham airport (BHX).

The pilots (and the landing gear) handle it pretty nicely.

It would be interesting to know how it felt for the passengers.

Here's a few more from user Flugsnug's Youtube channel:

And also a go-around performed by an Emirates Boeing 777.
I admit I had heard of this procedure, but hadn't really ever seen one.

In the end, after two failed attempts at landing in Birmingham, they decided to head to Gatwick.

The Last of 5-Second-Films

5-second-films ended on December 31st 2013 after a five year run.

Although they've stopped making 5-second-films, they will continue making longer videos for UPROXX.

The quality of their videos had gradually fallen in 2013, so since the last time, there are only four worthy videos to report.

Following those is the two-part finale.

Enjoy (one last time).

Ruthless Master

Emo Kids All Grown Up

RowboatCop: Origins

Sadness3

The Last 5SF - Part 1

The Last 5SF - Part 2

Truth be told, the finale is a bit of a total mess.

Click on the "5sf" label below to check out previous, hand-picked 5-second-films.

Not Exactly Brain Surgery

Just a brilliant sketch by Mitchell & Webb.

IKEA Heights

IKEA Heights was a soap opera shot inside an IKEA store without IKEA's permission.

Only seven episodes were made (about four years ago), as after a few episodes IKEA caught wind of it (apparently through the press) and the actors' photos were circulated in the IKEA security room.

It was a truly novel idea featuring (intentionally) corny dialogue and (intentional) bad acting.
The random IKEA customers passing through, wondering what the heck is going on, are perhaps what made it even funnier.

Here's episode 1:

The remaining six episodes can be found on the Ikea Heights Vimeo channel.

BBC Asks Wrong "Guy's" Opinion

This is hilarious. It is so rare for the BBC to make such a mistake.

From the Youtube video "about" section:

"Live on BBC News 24, BBC consumer affairs correspondent Karen Bowerman interviews a man who she believes to be Online Music Expert Guy Kewney.

...he was Guy Goma, a graduate from the Congo who was there for a job interview instead.

His expression once he realizes he's being interviewed on air is absolutely priceless."

Such a good sport, playing along with it. It's a shame he wasn't hired.

Yes. He has a Wikipedia article named after him. The interview section is worth a read.

Texan City Ice Avalanche

So... this thing can happen, and can obviously be very dangerous for unsuspecting passers-by.

The videos below are from a December 2013 cold spell in Plano, Texas (and they do appear to be in the same area, if not the same building complex).

That was... strangely satisfying to watch.

Here's more.

Somebody posted on imgur the damage to cars and trees.
Ouch.

Felix Baumgartner's Record Breaking Jump (in HD)

From Wikipedia:

"On 14 October 2012, Felix Baumgartner flew approximately 39kilometres (24mi) into the stratosphere over New Mexico, United States, in a helium balloon before free falling in a pressure suit and then parachuting to Earth. The total jump, from leaving the capsule to landing on the ground, lasted approximately ten minutes. While the free fall was initially expected to last between five and six minutes, Baumgartner deployed his parachute after 4 minutes and 19 seconds.

Reaching 1,357.64 km/h (843.6 mph)—Mach 1.25—Baumgartner became the first human to break the sound barrier without any form of engine power. Preliminary measurements show Baumgartner also broke two other world records. With a final altitude of 38,969 m (127,851 ft) (23.3884 miles), Baumgartner broke the unofficial record for the highest manned balloon flight of 37,640 m (123,491 ft) previously set by Nicholas Piantanida. He also broke the record for the highest altitude jump, set in 1960 by retired USAF Colonel Joseph Kittinger, who was Baumgartner's mentor and capsule communicator at mission control."

Joseph Kittinger is the voice guiding him in the video.

At 03:44 just wow.
Enjoy in HD of course.

De'Anthony Thomas Highlights

Despite the recent rant, even I can appreciate this clip of De'Anthony Thomas, a running back for the Oregon Ducks (university team) and potential 2014 NFL Draft pick.

Of course, in REAL football, you need far more than running skills to make it (there, I couldn't resist). Example to follow.

Best Used Car Ad Ever

Now, this is how you sell your car (if you have the necessary skills of course).

From the maker of the video:

"The time has come for me to sell my beloved 1996 Maxima, a faithful car that now has to go. Of course, I can't send it off without a proper goodbye. So in my spare time I decided to make this little ditty. Because marketing."

And in the end he succeeded. The car went back home to Nissan.
